How a translation comes together

The server retrieves language evidence. Your assistant uses it to find a stored translation or compose a sentence using the language's grammar.

Example: “My father's mother was a warrior.”

You ask your assistant

Choose the language and the sentence you want to translate.

MCP server checks access and quota

It connects your assistant to the available language tools.

Search the phrasebook

Look for a confident match for the full sentence.

Is there a confident full-sentence match?

Yes · stored translation

  1. Return the phrasebook translation

The assistant gives the stored wording and its source.

No · build from evidence

  1. Server returns related fragments

It signals that composition is needed, rather than presenting a weak match as the answer.

  2. Assistant requests vocabulary and grammar

For Nufi: dictionary entries, examples, possession rules and past-tense forms.

  3. Assistant applies the composition skill

Resolve “mother of my father” and “was a warrior”; check possession, tones and the attested lɑ̌' mɑ́ tɑ' pattern.

  4. Give literal and natural versions

“My father's mother…” and “My paternal grandmother…”, where the evidence supports both. Identify any unresolved wording.

The databases hold the evidence, the MCP server retrieves it, and the assistant composes the answer. Composed wording is labelled approximate unless confirmed.

Why search examples? Dictionary examples attest lɑ̌' mɑ́ tɑ' in “My father was a deputy” (example 7958). These examples help preserve particles that word-by-word translation can miss.

Language coverage matters. Every supported language has a phrasebook. The full dictionary, grammar and conjugator currently cover Nufi; their rules cannot be transferred to other languages.

Adding optional RAG

The same language tools, with an extra way to find relevant examples.

Your sentence

RAG off

  1. Assistant uses the MCP tools

Look up words, examples, grammar and verb forms.

  2. Translation from the evidence

RAG on

  1. Find related examples by meaning

Optional RAG combines vector similarity with keyword search.

  2. Assistant uses the same MCP tools

Use retrieved examples alongside vocabulary, grammar and conjugation.

  3. Translation from the evidence
Different words, a related meaning

You ask: “Je ne suis pas au courant de ce dossier ; par conséquent, je garderai le silence.”

RAG can find the reviewed example: “Je ne sais rien de cette affaire donc je vais me taire.”

RAG helps find existing evidence; the assistant still checks grammar and conjugation. It does not guarantee a better translation. Language access and search limits apply in either mode.

Choose whether to use RAG

RAG is on by default. In the chat app, uncheck “Use RAG to find related examples” to turn it off. Your dictionary, phrasebook, grammar and conjugator tools remain available.

For an MCP connection with RAG off, use this connector address with your usual sign-in method:
